Summer Fun

A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.
— James Dent

A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.
— St. Francis of Assisi

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
— Russel Baker

Today the sweltering heat where I live has profoundly reminded me that summer is HERE! It is a time when many are taking breaks, school is out, children are everywhere and people are engaging in many fun activities and events. Summer fun for me include:

Visits to the beach, amusement parks, outdoor concerts, festivals, barbecues, swimming pools, sun bathing, gardening, bike riding, nature walking, hiking, daydreaming, doing art outdoors, watermelon, ice cream, ice cold lemonade or sun-brewed ice tea, home-grown tomatoes, fresh-picked strawberries and other homegrown delights, blowing dandelion seed pods and bubbles, fireworks, longer days, warm nights, fireflies/lightning bugs, brief summer storms, the scent of honeysuckle, and seeing rainbows and butterflies…and oh, so much more.

The key to summer fun (or any seasonal fun) is to embrace the moments and the simple things. It is not about making every event and doing it all. It is about enjoying and savoring the moments, like when a couple of butterflies dance in your garden for a few minutes or sitting out late on a summer night in your pajamas counting shooting stars.

What does summer fun mean to you?

By the way, today is Sasha’s birthday (my wonderful furbaby). She is 4 years old.
