a tickle of words to create smiles

Gift Of Love #36

As I have given an update on my Gift of Love campaign yesterday, I also discussed how each bag has a story. Gift of Love #36 has a very special story. It has an image of praying hands with 3 hearts surrounding them. The three hearts represent God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

I spent a lot of time on the hands because I wanted them to look as reverent as possible. I, also, felt deeply connected with the Holy Spirit as I painted this. I really sensed that God was guiding me through this Gift Of Love. In fact, as I have progressed with this series of Gift of Love bag paintings, my connection with God and Spirit became more and more profound. It is extraordinarily validating. I know I am doing what I need to do. Have you ever felt this kind of connection in your work?

Gifts of Love Update 10

Wow, today was a busy day of art. I have art materials out everywhere in my studio, paint, paper, scissors, glue, tape, paint brushes, etc. Now, I have 82 Gifts of Love with paint on them.

I also spent most of the day celebrating…I bet you thought I was going to say Cinco de Mayo….. No, I was celebrating National Scrap-booking Day. I attended the 2nd Annual Creative EdVentures National Scrapbook Day Online Crop-a-thon. 14 wonderful artists participated, in which they demonstrated  on-line various techniques and projects using scrapbook materials. It was a blast!

I had lots of fun. Below are a few pictures of my most current Gifts of Love; and, one of the projects I started from the Crop-a-thon. It is a memory book made with paper lunch bags. Kelly Donovan demonstrated this project. I am really tickled with it so far!

Gifts of Love Update 8

Today I detailed 2 more Gifts of Love as you can see in the picture above. It has been a bit of a slow day as I seemed to have gotten a touch of flu or something. I am not surprised with the damp, cooler weather we have experienced lately.  I bet you are wondering who won this week for the Gift of Love bag drawing. I drew out the following 2 names: Terri Dorr and Laurie Story!! Congratulations!! I will be in contact with you this week to get your mailing addresses.

If any of you wish to be a recipient of one of these Gifts of Love, I will be doing a special drawing (one or two winners) each week until I finish painting all the Gifts of Love. I am on bag #30 for detailing and #68 for background art. All you need to do is leave a comment on my blog. The more comments you leave, the more times your name will go into the “hat”. The winners will be announced on Saturdays or Sundays. The Gift of Love will be sent out to you as soon as I get your mailing address.

Gifts of Love Update 6

Friday night I gave away 2 more Gifts of Love. Both Brittany and Bridget were delighted to receive them. Brittany really, really liked the art work on the gift bag. I am looking forward to hear how these wonderful women will pass the Gifts  of Love forward. Brittany is a more recent friend whom I met through Bridget as we all get together to indulge in Karaoke now and then.

Yesterday, I accompanied my parents on a trip to Richmond, Virginia to visit a long time friend. This was a good visit and a great reminder to stay in touch who have touched our lives. Too many years have passed since the last time we connected, and unfortunately, time has taken its toll on her. I am grateful that I was able to spend some quality time with both my parents and our long time friend. These times we spend together are our Gifts of Love to each other as the memories imprint upon our hearts.

Today, I spent much of my time away from home and later outdoors (after taking some allergy medicine). First, I went to the Poquoson Library’s Spring Used Book Sale. This annual event started Thursday evening for the preview sale for members of the Friends of the Poquoson Library. Then, on Friday through Sunday, it was open for the public. The variety of books was phenomenal. I am certain they had thousands of books. There was fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children, audio books and video tapes.

I spent the rest of the afternoon in the garden and seizing the gorgeous day. It was very summer-like without the humidity with the temperatures getting into the eighties Fahrenheit. I pulled out some potting soil and planted seeds for Beefsteak and Roma Tomatoes, Summer Squash, Cilantro, Sweet Basil and Cayenne Peppers. I am looking forward to seeing sprouts in the next week to ten days. I love seeing things grow, whether it is seeds and plants, or hearts and people.

Gifts Of Love Update 3

I am somewhat over the hump! I have paint on over 50 Gifts Of Love now! Twenty are completed and one gift has been given so far. As of tonight, I have 51 bags with paint on them. Pictured above is the background art on the 31 bags that will be transformed into Gifts Of Love over the course of this week. It just occurred to me that these Gifts of Love are metaphors for our lives as we evolve as people who grow more with love and compassion, and one day transform. One paint stroke at a time, one bag at a time, and one heart at a time, transformation will happen. This brings a big smile to my heart and soul.

Gifts of Love Update 2

What a beautiful day! I was able to interact with quite a few people today as I went to the library to renew my books and I went to Good Friday church service. Good Friday service always touches my heart and soul in such a significant way. It is a profound reminder of how our Saviour Jesus Christ sacrificed his earthbound life to pay for the sins of humanity because God’s love for us is so immense and wonderful. Below are more pictures of my progress with my Gifts of Love campaign. I feel I will be able to start distributing these Gifts next week.

Gifts of Love Update

It was a phenomenally gorgeous day! I was able to take some better pictures today. I also got to socialize with my neighbors, who had a recent family loss. I chatted with Mrs. B for nearly an hour. I felt she needed me today, so I let go of my other plans and enjoyed the chat with her. I am glad I did. They are great neighbors and do things for each other when possible.

Below are the images of bags 2 – 11 completed. I just put the finishing touches on bags 12 and started bags 13 – 16. I will post more pictures as bags are completed. ♥ Angi

Gifts of Love – Step One

Yesterday, Palm Sunday, I planned and started my Gift (Bags) of Love campaign. There will be four steps involved. I am uncertain how many days it will take.

Step one: paint 100 bags with art of love.
Step two: fill bags with tokens of love.
Step three: distribute bags.
Step four: collect stories.

I was able to paint 6 bags after I posted yesterday’s blog; and I am in the process of completing 6 more bags. I photographed them tonight in sets of 3. The lighting is not to great; so, I may retake these tomorrow using daylight.

I am quite excited on how this is proceeding as I am enjoying the process of painting each bag with heavy body (good quality) acrylic paints. I will post my progress as I go. It will probably take me 2 weeks to create 100 bags. I may start distributing bags after I paint and fill a set of 20 bags, which will take me less time. Below are the photos of the bags in sets of 3. The last 3 are in progress. I invite you to give me any feedback on these. Any suggestions?
