Happy Independence Day, 2013

04JulyHTC1.1
Since today is Independence Day, I am re-posting an acrostic poem I composed last year; however, the artwork above is brand new. I just painted it a few hours ago…

It is a time for
Nationalism by honoring our
Democracy, Independence, Liberty and
Equal rights.
Patriotism bounds as we participate in parades,
Enjoy cookouts and watch fireworks.
Never letting go of the American
Dream, this
Awesome
Nation is able to
Celebrate and
Embrace freedom.

Daring to be…
Amazing and free…
You and me.

Happy Independence Day! I am proud and delighted to be a citizen of the United States of America. I appreciate where I live and feel blessed to be born here. In all my travels, I have seen wonderful cultures and countries; however, I have not found another that surpasses the United States. We are truly free to be whomever we wish to be; and, have access to so many opportunities! God Bless America!

Stay Positive!

Even with the best of plans and intentions, things may go wrong. That is when we most need to stay positive. ~ Dr. Angi K. Orobko

You can only control how you will act and react to your circumstances. I am a co-chairperson to a library charity event that is coming to fruition tomorrow and Sunday. I carefully laid out a timeline and contacted everyone I needed to contact, getting confirmations and clarity. Unfortunately, a few challenges presented themselves yesterday and today. One involved a community announcement in the newspaper, which as abbreviated to the point of misleading the public to where the our library charity event will take place.

This morning, we were challenged by the weather. The rain made it difficult to set up our tent. We were, also suppose to get 7 to 8 tables for our event. The coordinators involved in getting us tables had documented that we only needed 3. This came as a surprise to me. I had to stay positive so we could work through this challenge. Between the coordinators and my team of wonderful volunteers, we came up an amicable solution. Stay positive and not blaming anyone helped to eliminate this challenge.

Attitude is everything when faced with negative situation. Keeping level-headed and positive allowed everyone involved to think clearly to co-create a solution. Negative emotions would have only muddled the situation dispensing energies that could have otherwise been put to good use. This morning, I had to remind myself, that the situation was beyond my control, but my reaction to it is not. I asked myself, what will get me more tables, smiles or frowns? Smiles won.

Shine On!

PUTTING others DOWN and pointing out their flaws does NOT make ONE look better…it actually makes HE or SHE look judgmental, critical, hard-hearted and cold. Why not just outshine the competition through love and positive action? ~ Dr. Angela Kowitz Orobko

I guess I am getting a bit cynical (oh-oh!) with all the negative campaigning that seems a bit more one-sided than the other. Then, I put on my rose-colored glasses and found that there is a lesson in this! We can outshine our competition by what we do. Let us learn from our less enlightened political candidates! Action speaks LOUDER than words. We do not need to point out the flaws in others. That just makes us look judgmental or worse. We just need to be our shining selves.

If others are putting you down or pointing out your flaws, then consider the source. Smile, and outshine them with your positive attitude. At first you may take some of the negative talk to heart, but your light will shine through it. Furthermore, others are paying attention to you.

Take delight that they have so much time on their hands to take notice and they are able to find the needles in the haystack. They can watch you be the best person you know how to be as you continue to be your positive self. Be the star that your are and shine!

Authenticity

How does one define authenticity? Authenticity is the state of being real, truthful, genuine and/or sincere. One of the hardest things to do is to be authentic when you do not know who you are. Defining yourself and your purpose builds confidence and authenticity; furthermore, with authenticity, you build relationships based on love and trust.

That is great if you know who you are; but, suppose you are not clear on your purpose and/or who you truly are? A good place to start is to place yourself in front of a mirror and state your name, “I am…[insert your name]” Then follow this up with all those positive affirmations that you know are true about yourself, “I am smart; I am open to new ideas; I am a good listener; I am a good friend; I am a great parent; I am wonderful spouse; I am…” Allow the list to go on and on.

Then write these positive affirmations down on notes you can stick all over the place to remind you of exactly all the wonderful things you are. Also, consider all the activities and events that bring you joy. Write these down in a notebook or journal, along with all the positive affirmations. Reflect on these, as these begin to define who you are authentically.

Guess what? You are what you think you are. You become your words and your thoughts. Also, you get to choose those words and thoughts every single day and every single moment of your life. There are many methods to help people clarify who they are and their purpose. A phenomenal way to gain clarity is through life coaching and/or mental health counseling. Now, consider the following, are you being true to yourself and others? What are you thinking right now? Are they positive thoughts?  Remember, thoughts become reality.
