Grateful to be Me (TY-18)

AKO-AttitudeOfGratitude

Today, I am grateful to be ME, because as you can see, it is ME that can set my CREATIVE heart and soul FREE! (Dr. Angi quote). I am grateful that I can rhyme from time to time, as well as all my qualities and attributes. I am even grateful for my faults and shortcomings. I am grateful that I have a positive outlook on life and that I find it easy to care about people.

I have the innate ability to see both sides of most situations, which allows me to be objective most of the time. I am grateful that I am able to profess confidently who I am even through my doubt due to my courageous  heart. I am grateful that I am able to write whatever comes to mind without worrying too much about what I have just said only to discover that it was indeed profound. I am grateful that I can laugh at myself and not take myself too seriously. Today, I deeply appreciate who I am and for what I believe…love, kindness, compassion, God and humanity…especially our ability to bounce back and adapt. Today, I am celebrating, ME!

Believe In Yourself

This is a great reminder. I saw the words on Facebook today. It is exactly the message I needed to see. So, I tweaked it and made it even more JOY-FULL!

We are what we BELIEVE; furthermore, we need to be ourselves. Embrace the good and the challenges. No one is perfect (thank goodness). Life would not be as exciting if we were all perfect, right? Most mistakes make humor. Good humor brings happiness. The choice is our own. We can decide to believe in ourselves and be, or not. One of the two choices is going to make you way more happier. I choose to BE ME and BELIEVE in me. BElieve in YOUrself.

Confidence

Why is it that some people are or seem more confident than others? Were they born that way or did they learn it? Perhaps it is a little of both; but, confidence does not have to be something only exclusive to a few. There are many ways to build self-confidence.  One way is to tell yourself that you do not have to be perfect! Most people are not looking at your perceived “bad parts” or seeking to point out your “mistakes”.

Have you ever heard of the expression, “fake it until you make it? “That expression simply means to smile through your fear. Pretend you are confident in yourself until you really do feel secure with yourself and your skills/talents.

You can also practice those skills/talents with which you feel insecure. Practice builds confidence. Here are some simple steps on how you can build your self-confidence:

1. Make a list of all the things you fear doing but want to do or try.

2. Pick one, one that you feel would be easy to do or try.

3. Seek information on how to do it. See how others do it or tried it. You Tube is phenomenal for tutorials.

4. Try it and then do it, over and over again.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 until you complete the list.

But suppose you feel you are not physically attractive, how do you build self-confidence. That requires positive self-talk. Step outside your self as if you were someone else looking at you. This will help you to become objective. What does this person see about you that is attractive? Perhaps it is your smile or maybe your cute freckles or perhaps it is your robust complexion. Accentuate your positives! Do you remember the song by Johnny Mercer and the Pied Pipers. This is the best verse:

You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between

Create a list of all the positives. Eliminate all the negative self-talk. Latch on to the affirmative through daily affirmations! And, do not concern yourself with anything in-between. Yes, there are things we can change about ourselves such as our muscle tone, weight and even things like the shape of our nose; however, if you are unhappy with who you truly are, then no amount of physical exercise, weight training, dieting and/or surgery will ever make you self-confident and happy. You need to learn to be happy with the person you are; and, tell yourself that you are exactly the person you want to be.

Today you are You…

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” – Dr. Seuss

“Do not wish to be anything but what you are.” – Saint Francis de Sales

Many people are not comfortable with who they are. A bombardment of advertisements and marketing schemes scream at people telling them they need to wear this and that, eat this and that, use this and that product, go here and there for this and that, and so on and so on!

It is no wonder why so many people have self-confidence issues, are searching for themselves/their purpose and/or are taking medication. Madison Avenue executives have people brainwashed that if people do not use, eat, wear, etc. what they are selling then they are not good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, successful enough! How does one break free from this nonsense!!!! People need to embrace who they are.

How? Great question. How, indeed? That is one of many questions each person needs to ask of themselves. What brings joy to your life? Embrace all those things you cannot change, like your height and  your freckles. Those are the parts that make you who you are! Do and be what feels right. Why squeeze into a “mold” that does not fit? If long hair is how all the pretty women are wearing their hair; and, you look and feel fabulous in short hair, why change? We need to be who we are and nothing less! Do not let people steer you into what you are not!
